This site contains information about the many serious problems with the laws and enforcement of the laws related to driving while intoxicated and driving with a prohibited BAC. The discussion focuses on Wisconsin drunk driving law. All states have similar OWI, DUI and DWI laws that have similar serious problems.

Drunk driving and drunk driver laws are becoming misnomers as more and more states lower the BAC levels from .10 to .08. Many people will not be impaired and most will certainly not be drunk at .08 BAC. They will be considered statutorily intoxicated anyway and treated as if they actually were impaired.

Some Fundamentals!

First of all, we can all agree that we don't want drunks driving on our streets and highways. But as is so often the case in our modern society, instead of going after the real troublemakers, we go after good and harmless (and relatively powerless) citizens.

Why? There are probably many reasons, but three important reasons are: money, vengeance and misinformation. The money involved in arresting and convicting alleged OWIs is huge (mostly because the net is cast far too wide and we are arresting citizens who are very capable of driving). MADD and similar groups are no longer looking for safety or justice or anything noble. They simply want vengeance. They are angry at anyone who may resemble in some way, a party that they deem responsible for the death of their loved ones. Misinformation is rampant. The statistical information does not support the assumptions evident in the drunk driving laws.
